Who Should Attend: Case Managers, Direct Care Staff, Behavioral Health Staff, Therapists, and everyone wanting to improve their knowledge of the disability process to better assist those they serve.

Training Objectives
Participants will learn about:
–The Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs.
–The standards Social Security uses to determine disability.
–How the Social Security appeals process works.
–Whether people receiving disability benefits can work.
–What causes benefit overpayments and how to challenge them.

About the Speaker: Joe Basque is a staff attorney with Iowa Legal Aid, where he has practiced for almost thirty years. He received a BA at the University of Notre Dame and a law degree from Southern Methodist University. He represents clients in Social Security disability and overpayment cases at the administrative and Federal Court levels. He has lectured on Social Security topics at national and regional conferences for the National Organization of Social Security Claimant’s Representatives (NOSSCR) as well as before the Iowa State Bar Association.
