A client in a heightened state can exhibit challenging behaviors while also being a safety risk for those around them. This course will start to understand behaviors that may lead to a heightened state while share learning to identify situations may lead to de-escalation. Participants will learn to identify reactions to keep calm and remove oneself from a situation to maintain safety for all.

A client in a heightened state can exhibit challenging behaviors while also being a safety risk for those around them. Through the Calm Down: Understanding Basics to De-escalate Situations course now offered November 14, you will start to understand behaviors that may lead to a heightened state while share learning to identify situations may lead to de-escalation. Participants will learn to identify reactions to keep calm and remove oneself from a situation to maintain safety for all.

With the overall goal of learning how to de-escalate clients, participants will: 1) learn the causes for anger, 2) demonstrate 3 ways body language and verbal language can be used to de-escalate a client, and 3) demonstrate an understanding of using LEAP can be used in interactions with clients to help them achieve baseline.
